Earthquake causes damage in Boston and along the Massachusetts coast.

February 5, 1663

Centered in Quebec and subsequently estimated at being of a magnitude of 7.5, the earthquake damages buildings in Boston and Roxbury. In his journal, the Rev. S. Danforth of Roxbury writes, “About 6 o’clock at night there happened an earthquake, wch shook mens houses and cuased many to run out of their houses into the streets. And ye tops of 2 or 3 chimneys fell off.”
